Welcome from Program Director

My goal for the Med-Peds Residency program is to train compassionate, scholarly and competent physicians who are well-prepared to begin careers as medicine-pediatric primary care providers, hospitalists or subspecialists.

The strengths of our program have always been its size and scope, the integration in both departments, the diversity of our residents, their backgrounds and interests and the quality of our faculty and our clinical experiences. Our program has continued to evolve as we continue to improve, strengthening personal integration among the residents and increasing emphasis on outpatient training venues and community partnerships.

I reflect with great pride on the outstanding residents our program has produced. We seek residents who are active learners who will make our program even better. Our residents, graduates and faculty will tell you that our work at Riley Children’s Hospital, IU Health Hospitals, Eskenazi Health and the Veterans Administration allows for diverse range of patient care alongside the rich cohort of categorical and combined peers and faculty. They take great care of our patients—from infancy to old age—and have a passion for learning. These physicians enjoy working with each other and having fun.

We run a large program with broad experiences that allow incoming residents to either sample the array of options that Med-Peds has to offer or to focus their future on a defined career in primary care, community advocacy, specialty care, hospital medicine, research, and global health. Since 1982, IU School of Medicine has graduated 362 residents from the Med-Peds residency program. Many of our graduates stay in Indiana, because they enjoy the famous Hoosier hospitality, low cost of living and clinical career opportunities. Little did I know 20 years ago that I would still be here myself, now in the role as Program Director.

I look forward to meeting you.
