The Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Neurology, under the leadership of Chair Laurie Gutmann, MD, has a rich tradition in academic neurology with a national reputation in neurological education and neuroscience research. The department is located in the Indiana University Health Neuroscience Center, a state-of-the-art outpatient center that unites all the specialties that involve nervous system disorders—Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neuropsychology and Neuroradiology. It is also home to the main outpatient Neurophysiology laboratory at IU Health. The adjoining IU School of Medicine Neurosciences Research Building and Stark Neurosciences Research Institute enables clinicians, basic scientists and clinician-scientists to collaborate in an environment that is rarely achieved in academic medicine.

Education

Accomplished physician faculty in the Department of Neurology are deeply committed to training medical students, residents and fellows in this complex field of medicine. The residency and fellowship programs provide exceptional training for the nation's future neurologists.

Dr. Bodkin is the director of the Neurology Outpatient Clinic at the IU Health Neuroscience Center and the Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic as well as co-director of the ALS Clinic.

Neurology Education

The Department of Neurology at IU School of Medicine has been recognized as a model among U.S. medical schools for encouraging interest in the field of neurology with the highest percentage of students choosing this specialty. For several decades, the Association of University Professors of Neurology (AUPN) and the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) have recognized this department as one of the premier groups nationally that has consistently attracted students into the field.
