Training the next generation of OB-GYN physicians and improving women's health in Indiana

The mission of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Indiana University School of Medicine is to advance the health care of women in the State of Indiana and further impact the quality of women's health care both nationally and abroad. With a steady commitment to recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty, fellow and resident population to better serve the community, the department is educating the next generation of OB-GYN physicians and improving women’s health in Indiana. 

The department has a long history of outstanding education, clinical care, quality improvement, and basic, clinical and translational research. 
The IU School of Medicine OB-GYN teaching faculty and appointed clinical faculty at all nine campuses throughout Indiana are eager to teach and have medical students as part of their teams.

Diverse and Collaborative Work Environment

In the realm of diversity, the OB-GYN department at IU School of Medicine leads by example, understanding that patients and learners thrive when they see themselves reflected in their doctors, teachers, leaders and role models. The department strives to employ faculty and residents that reflect the diverse patient and student populations served and to cultivate a diverse, inclusive departmental culture that feels welcoming to all.

OB-GYN Residency Program

The obstetrics and gynecology residency program at IU School of Medicine offers a broad spectrum of experience in a four-year program that is one of the largest residency programs in the country. Residents rotate through several hospitals and experience a diverse patient population.

The OB-GYN Residency Program is an active partner with the IU Center for Global Health, which provides opportunities for residents to gain experience in global health work as early as their intern year. OB-GYN residents can choose to travel abroad in the third and fourth years of training; locations have included Kenya, Peru and the Dominican Republic.
