Ruth Lilly Medical Library

The Ruth Lilly Medical Library provides the physicians, researchers and learners at IU School of Medicine with access to the world’s evolving scientific and biomedical literature. The library and its staff work across all nine campuses, providing a collaborative learning environment with the information resources and expertise that are vital for preparing healers, advancing care and accelerating science.

Explore

The medical library at IU School of Medicine has an extensive collection of information resources and databases as well as tools and education opportunities available for advancing the research, practice and study of medicine. The History of Medicine Collection is located on the third floor and the RLML Makerspace, where students can access 3D-printing technology as well as augmented reality and other creative processes, is on the second floor. Residents, fellows, graduate students, staff and faculty also benefit from a wide range of library class offerings — ranging from evidence-based medicine and research data management to NIH Public Access compliance and evidence synthesis.

Hours

Doors are open to all visitors for study and research during library hours and an IU School of Medicine ID allows visitors to gain entry. Non-IU School of Medicine researchers may use the call box by the library entrance or contact circulation desk personnel at 317-274-7182 to request entrance. Building access is restricted after 5 pm. The library is closed University Holidays and may have special, limited hours during holiday periods.

Personalized Support

The Ruth Lilly Medical Library has a diverse and collaborative staff that are dedicated to the success of the IU School of Medicine’s expert physicians, researchers, and learners. Medical students can access House, College and Campus Librarian Liaisons for personized support. Similarly, IU School of Medicine physicians, researchers and staff can access a Liaison Librarian. RLML Liaison Librarians are assigned to each IU School of Medicine department, center, institute and unit.

A Lifelong Learning Connection

All IU School of Medicine faculty, staff and students have access to the resources and services provided by the Ruth Lilly Medical Library. In addition, the majority of electronic resources from the Indianapolis campus's University Library, the IU School of Dentistry Library, and the Ruth Lilly Law Library are available to IU School of Medicine faculty, staff and students due to reciprocal and collaborative licensing agreements.

Statewide Services

The medical library offers research guides, document delivery and other services at all campuses for anywhere, anytime access. The Ruth Lilly Medical Library offers research guides on many topics, including how to measure scholarly impact and how to use Endnote for organizing references. Test preparation resources and specialized guides for specific departments are also available.

All School of Medicine faculty, staff and students have access to the library’s e-journal, print and electronic book collections, and database subscriptions. Library staff have the expertise to locate, secure and electronically deliver articles and books chapters. Print books may be requested and delivered to each IU School of Medicine campus.
