Division of Complex Family Planning

As the only health system in Indiana with fellowship-trained complex family planning specialists, the Division of Complex Family Planning is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered, evidence-based reproductive health care for all Hoosiers.

IU physicians provide comprehensive contraceptive care, in-office IUD care and procedural miscarriage management with multiple sedation options, giving each person the most comfortable experience possible. Additionally, IU physicians provide evidence-based miscarriage medication management and in-office ultrasound to simplify visits. The division also provides abortion care within the legal limits in Indiana.

The division's faculty also provide family planning education to IU School of Medicine medical students and OB-GYN residents at IU Health and Eskenazi hospitals. The division's important partnership with Planned Parenthood of Illinois provides excellent training for our residents.

Our division works closely in interdisciplinary teams with maternal-fetal medicine specialists and minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons to treat complex, high-risk conditions, including ectopic and cesarean-scar ectopic pregnancies. Additionally, our division collaborates with experts at the IU School of Medicine, IU Health and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Indiana chapter to advocate for our patients and colleagues, ensuring everyone has access to the comprehensive reproductive health care they need and deserve.

PATH4YOU

Our faculty helped develop and now oversee and provide clinical care through Indiana's only state-wide contraceptive access project, Pregnancy at a Time that is Happy & Healthy for YOU (PATH4YOU). Rooted in a reproductive justice framework, PATH4YOU provides all Hoosiers free telehealth and in-person contraceptive care, regardless of insurance coverage, citizenship, age and other factors.

Research

Our faculty's areas of research are varied and include a novel intrauterine device clinical trial, contraceptive counseling strategies for women living with HIV in Kenya, improving family planning training for medical students and understanding how people navigate care in Indiana.
