The combined five-year residency program in Emergency Medicine/Pediatrics at IU School of Medicine accepts two residents each year. The program prepares residents for board certification in both disciplines.
Residents integrate their pediatric rotations within all three hospitals on the IU School of Medicine—Indianapolis campus, participating as equal peers with their fellow pediatric residents. The residents have a pediatric continuity practice and alternate rotations between pediatrics and emergency medicine every two months. Residents receive 30 months of training in each field.
With an excellent patient base and experienced faculty who enjoy teaching, residents progress through increasingly supervisory roles to become competent in the management of problems in both pediatrics and emergency medicine. Future career possibilities include academic appointments available in virtually any combination of the two fields for physicians interested in teaching, private pediatric practice or community emergency medicine.
