The Division of Pediatric Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine is a large interdisciplinary congenital heart specialty team that provides care to the children of the state of Indiana and the Midwest and includes an international program.
Cardiovascular care starts with the fetus through diagnosis and continues through intervention and lifelong care for congenital heart defects extending through adulthood. Clinical care for the patients is provided by pediatric cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiovascular critical care specialists, cardiovascular pediatric anesthesiologists, neonatologists with expertise in congenital heart abnormalities, adult congenital heart cardiologists, and many other pediatric specialists. These specialists treat a variety of diseases and conditions, including congenital heart disease, acquired heart disease, Kawasaki disease, rheumatic fever, arrhythmias, heart murmurs, chest pain, syncope, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, heart failure and heart transplantation.
In addition to the clinical care programs, the Division of Pediatric Cardiology houses a Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship training program and participates in a vibrant translational research program through the IU School of Medicine’s Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. This center offers exceptional opportunities for trainees and includes collaboration among basic scientists, translational scientists, and physicians.
