Pediatric Rheumatology

The faculty physicians in the Pediatric Rheumatology division at IU School of Medicine practice as part of Riley Rheumatology, one of the larger groups of physicians specializing in inflammatory, autoimmune diseases and arthritis in childhood in the United States. This pediatrics specialty team teaches medical students, residents in pediatrics and internal medicine, and post-doctoral fellows. They are involved in educating other physicians through their teaching at national and international meetings.

Multi-Institutional Collaboration

It is an exciting time in pediatric rheumatology. Science is advancing rapidly in the field—with improved understanding of the mechanisms of inflammation, modern medicine now has medications to treat once debilitating or life-threatening diseases and give people back their quality of life. The diseases treated in this specialty area of pediatric medicine are uncommon or rare, and collaborative research has taken off.

Research

Research

Pediatric rheumatology faculty participate in research studies that are observational and interventional. Investigators explore the natural course of a disease, what triggers flares and remissions, and how to control the disease, offering advanced therapies to those who need them while studying their effectiveness.
