Triple Board Residency (Pediatrics/Psychiatry/Child Psychiatry)

The Triple Board Residency is an integrated five-year program of pediatrics and psychiatry training that leads to board eligibility in Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry. Two residents each year are accepted into the IU School of Medicine program. During the first four years, residents spend equal time training in pediatrics and psychiatry. The final year consists entirely of psychiatric training with the exception of the pediatric continuity clinic.

In this combined program, residents function as fully integrated members of both departments when on department-specific rotations, with the same responsibilities as categorical residents. Pediatric call is taken on pediatric rotations and electives; psychiatry call is taken on the psychiatry rotations and electives.

Graduates of the Triple Board Residency have skills in both pediatrics and child psychiatry and are in demand throughout the United States. Careers vary from academic pediatric psychiatrists at tertiary care centers to pediatric primary care physicians who utilize their psychiatric training to provide much-needed mental health services to their patients.
