Steps to apply to the Indiana University Internal Medicine Pediatrics residency program.

Applying to the Med-Peds Residency Program

Thank you for your interest in Internal Medicine-Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. We are aware of the challenges you may have faced in your medical education due to COVID-19, and recognize that you may not have been able to complete all the rotations you intended. Our standard procedure has always been to complete a holistic review of your application; although your clinical experiences may have differed from what you envisioned, our holistic approach will take these unique circumstances into account.

Graduates from an accredited medical school may submit their application through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). The Med-Peds program will only accept and review complete applications submitted in ERAS.

Starting on Sept. 25, 2024, we will begin reviewing applications received through ERAS; however, we will not begin sending interview invitations until Tuesday, Oct. 8. Our first interview day will be Monday, Oct. 21, and the deadline to submit an application to our program is Dec. 31, 2024.

We will be following best practices and national guidelines, which means all our interview dates will be conducted 100% virtually. Applicants will not be able to schedule official visits to the institution with our program. This decision was not taken lightly, as you will not get a personal feel for our medical campus or interact in-person with our fantastic residents during your interviews. However, equity in the interview process for our applicants is top priority and we have modified our interview day itinerary to offer you the best experience possible!

Application Requirements

  1. Common Application Form (CAF) in ERAS

  2. Three letters of recommendation are required; a fourth will be accepted. Recommendation letters should be written by physicians with whom you have worked directly. We do not require a letter from a department chair, but they will be accepted as one of your three letters.

  3. MSPE (Dean's Letter)

  4. Medical School transcripts

  5. USMLE Step 1 score (P/F) for all applicants

  6. USMLE Step 2 must be uploaded in ERAS by February 17, 2025

  7. Personal Statement

Our commitment to applicants during the interview season

Our program is aware of the stressors associated with interview season and in an effort to alleviate applicant stress, we will not offer more interview invitations than available spots, nor will we rescind an invitation to interview with our program. Furthermore, Indiana University School of Medicine and the Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency program are committed to diversity and inclusivity within our medical community, and will not discriminate against learners on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or gender identity, nationality, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, military service or other non-merit factors.
