FOREIGN MEDICAL SCHOOLS

I was born and raised in Peshawar, Pakistan. Growing up, I developed a keen interest in computer science, particularly programming. I taught myself VB.NET from scratch and began freelancing in the 8th grade. Initially, I was set on pursuing a career in computer science. However, everything changed when my sister gained admission to medical school. Through her, I gained insight into the world of medicine and noticed similarities between problem-solving in computer science and medicine. Moreover, I realized that both fields heavily rely on algorithms.

I am very excited to work at the IU School of Medicine and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. I envision myself as a well-rounded internist who can work in any health care setting (outpatient, inpatient or even the ICU). I’m confident that the excellent training and autonomy at Ball Memorial Hospital will adequately prepare me for that. I find all the subspecialties of internal medicine very interesting, so I’d like to explore them before committing to one.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy reading books, watching TV, exercising and dining out.

FOREIGN MEDICAL SCHOOLS

I was born and raised in Bangladesh, a resource-limited society where I frequently witnessed people suffering from commonly manageable illnesses. These experiences profoundly affected me and fostered a desire to improve people's quality of life and alleviate their suffering, ultimately leading to my interest in medicine. Driven by a passion for learning, I attended two schools simultaneously, further nurturing my academic curiosity.

I discovered immense satisfaction in diagnosing and managing complex medical conditions during medical school. This experience solidified my interest in pursuing a career in internal medicine.

My final interview was at IU School of Medicine-Ball Memorial Hospital, where interactions with the residents revealed a warm and welcoming environment that fostered a sense of belonging. I am eager to expand my medical knowledge and develop my skills to provide high-quality patient care.

Outside of medicine, I find joy in nurturing plants, propagating new ones and cooking for my friends and family.

Indiana University School of Medicine

I am a lifelong Hoosier that was raised in Connersville, IN and did my undergraduate studies at Indiana University East. I have come to know the health disparities that plague this region of Indiana through my life and am fortunate I am in a place in my life to start making a meaningful contribution to our health care. I was able to do all four years of medical school right here in Muncie. During our second year of medical school, we had Dr. Dickey as our clinical skills teacher and I quickly realized this is a place I want to be. My clinical rotations during 3rd and 4th year further bolstered that realization as I came to appreciate the intimacy of relationships offered at IU School of Medicine and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. I am fortunate that I have been able to start a family and the Muncie area is a fantastic area to raise a family.

I have many interests in medicine and have multiple career paths in mind that I look forward to exploring throughout residency. I easily envision myself in vastly different specialties such as hospitalist medicine, infectious disease or critical care. My interests outside of medicine are Reds baseball, golf, video games and hanging out with my family.

Hi, I’m Aireen! I was born in St. Louis, MO. Until June 2021, I had never travelled outside of the Philippines. Since I was a kid, I dreamt of becoming a doctor. Since I was in college, I dreamt of practicing in the US. By the grace of God and the full support of my wonderful family, I graduated from St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine, and I am excited to start residency training at IU School of Medicine and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

IU Health Ball Memorial was the last interview invite I received and the last interview I attended, but they gave me the lasting impression — these are the kind of people I want to work and grow with. I know the rigor of residency will get to me at times, but our mentors take care of their in-training doctors so that they can take good care of their patients. It is the same kind of supportive culture I want to imbibe in my future practice in primary care someday.

Out of the hospital, I am probably doing YouTube dance workouts, practicing my cooking, rewatching my favorite films with giant spaceships or monsters, and reading ridiculous sci-fi books. I love the sea, and I have a weird penchant for abandoned places and shipwrecks.

Kathmandu Medical College

Life is a blessing but at the same time it is fragile. I learned this at an early age; having witnessed my elder brother suffer myocardial infarction and losing my close aunt to cardiac arrest. These life events touched me profoundly and ignited my desire to understand human physiology.

Hi everyone! My name is Nayan and I grew up in Nepal and graduated from Kathmandu Medical College in 2018.

My quest to learn about human physiology led me on a non-traditional route to medical school. Right before medical school, I spent five years living in a spiritual ashram, away from material living, practicing meditation and yoga. During medical school, I immersed myself into research and volunteering. I was successful in publishing multiple research papers and leading a local chapter of Lions Club International. It was during medical school that I decided to apply for the United States Medical Residency Program.

I am grateful to have matched at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital Internal Medicine Residency program. The strong academic program with institutionally based faculty members with a commitment to teaching and academic excellence is what attracted me to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. I am looking forward to growing in this caring and supportive environment and to enhance my skills to become a compassionate and caring clinician.

In my leisure time, I enjoy spending time with my family, doing yoga and meditation, traveling, hiking, playing Sudoku and cooking.
