The division is led by Roberto Machado, MD, who feels keenly aware of his responsibility as a Latino in a position of leadership. The responsibility to be an agent for positive change and a model for individuals that are underrepresented in the field. Inclusive excellence is one of the main pillars in the divisions strategic plan. The division strives to recruit, nurture, and retain diverse and highly skilled members. All members perform better on all aspects of the divisions missions when the faculty, trainees and staff reflect the diversity, and understand the needs of the people being served.
The Division of Pulmonary Medicine is comprised of more than forty physicians and investigators who actively participate in research programs, community service and an extensive array of clinical activities. The division provides two active fellowship programs in critical care and sleep medicine, serves five major hospitals and several premier specialty clinics in the Indianapolis area, and educates future physicians in a wide array of medical education programs. As a Latino in a position of leadership, I am keenly aware of my responsibility to be an agent for positive change and a model for individuals that are underrepresented in our field. Inclusive Excellence is one of the main pillars of our strategic plans for the Division and we strive to recruit, nurture and retain diverse and highly skilled members to our Division. We perform better on all aspects of our missions when our faculty, trainees and staff reflect the diversity, and understand the needs of the people we serve.
