Academic Scholarship for Visiting Students

The Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine offers an academic scholarship for visiting students. A scholarship is offered annually for visiting committed to serving medically underserved communities. Emergency Medicine rotations are available at Eskenazi Hospital and IU Health Methodist Hospital. Students with an interest in pediatric emergency medicine have an additional option to complete their rotation at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Interested applicants may apply for this $2,000 scholarship using the online application form.

Students who are dedicated to serving medically underserved communities and interested in pursuing a career in emergency medicine are encouraged to apply for the IU School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine Service Leadership Scholarship. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Requirements

Qualifying students will be full-time third year medical students applying to a fourth year elective. Applicants must be in good standing at their home institution and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Applicants must have completed all third year clinical requirements by the time of the elective and intend to pursue emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine.

Interested students can apply using the online application form. In addition to completing the form, an updated CV and medical school transcripts must be uploaded to consider the application complete. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications are reviewed by members of IU School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine with attention given to academic performance, service, leadership and commitment to a career in emergency medicine.

Following scholarship selection, awardees need to apply for the Emergency Medicine clerkship rotation using the VSLO system.

Insurance Coverage

IU School of Medicine does not provide personal health or professional liability insurance coverage to students from other schools. The student will be required to provide their own personal health insurance and professional liability while on a senior elective at IU School of Medicine. If approved, this information will be required for the formal VSAS application.
