Emergency Medical Services Fellowship

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program that provides a robust prehospital EMS educational experience. Learners are immersed in all aspects of prehospital medicine, gaining the knowledge and skills to become a well-rounded physician leader in emergency medical services. The IU School of Medicine EMS Fellowship partners with all key EMS stakeholders in Indianapolis and surrounding communities, including:

  • Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (the largest provider of EMS services in Indiana)
  • Indianapolis Fire Department
  • Indiana University Health Lifeline Critical Care Transport
  • Indianapolis Motor Speedway
  • Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department

How to Apply

Prospective fellows must submit their applications to Mark Liao, MD and Colleen Friedly by Aug. 31, 2025.  Applications must include a letter of intent/personal statement, two letters of recommendation and curriculum vitae.

Curriculum

Didactics are held every Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. There is a blend of textbook review, journal club and presentations from subject matter experts.

Facilities

Fellows are fully integrated within the Department of Emergency Medicine Division of Out-of-Hospital Care (EMS), as well as all agencies that our EMS division oversees.
