Training Facilities

Fellows in the Allergy/Immunology Fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine train at some of the top facilities in the United States with extensive opportunities in both research and clinical care.

Riley Hospital for Children

Riley Hospital for Children (Indianapolis and Carmel) is the primary teaching facility for the Department of Pediatrics and is the main tertiary referral center for children in the state of Indiana with more than 245,000 inpatient and outpatient pediatric visits annually. Allergy/immunology fellows see patients in pediatric allergy, immunology and immune deficiency clinics. 

Wells Center for Pediatric Research

Basic and translational research are conducted at IU School of Medicine’s Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research, which is connected to Riley Hospital (Indianapolis). Research at the Wells Center has resulted in highly successfully external research funding including funding from the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, the American Heart Association and the Department of Defense. Department of Pediatrics allergy faculty collaborate frequently with Wells Center researchers.

Pediatric Translational Research Center

The Pediatric Translational Research Center (Indianapolis) at IU School of Medicine includes bioinformatics, rooms for patient exams, a wet laboratory for processing of specimens, bio-banking, freezer space and administrative/office space. Integration is part of this research center and the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology, Allergy and Sleep Medicine has space in this area. The center includes advanced diagnostics including genomic and proteomic work, cell phenotyping and mass spectrometry.

IU Health Methodist Hospital

Methodist Hospital (Indianapolis) is the largest hospital in the state of Indiana, recognized as providing excellent patient care. Fellows work with faculty in the adult allergy-immunology clinic at the Methodist Professional Center and learn how to manage complex cases in the outpatient setting.

IU Health University Hospital

University Hospital (Indianapolis) is a tertiary-care referral hospital with nationally and internationally recognized programs in specialized care and is recognized for its clinical excellence and research. Physicians, surgeons, nurses and staff care for more than 57,000 patients a year.

IU Health North Hospital

Fellows work with faculty at IU Health North (Carmel, IN) to see both adult and pediatric patients. Food and drug challenges are conducted at IU Health North just as they are at the downtown facilities.
