We are actively working to increase the diversity of our department, which is expressed in many forms including race and ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, language, culture, national origin, religious commitments, age, and (dis)ability status.
Further, we are working actively to challenge and respond to bias, harassment, and discrimination. We are pursuing deliberate efforts to ensure that the Department of Emergency Medicine is a place where differences are welcomed, different perspectives are respectfully heard, and where every individual feels a sense of belonging. In addition, IU School of Medicine offers focused, systematic and sustained programs that are aligned with three foundational pillars: representational diversity, inclusive working and learning environment, and cultural competence.
This is important work because we know that a more diverse workforce leads to better outcomes with decision making and patient care.
