Four diverse training locations provide a broad range of clinical experience for residents in the Emergency Medicine Residency at IU School of Medicine.

All Level One emergency departments within 1.5 miles of each other totaling 250,000 patients annually.
Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital
IU Health Methodist Hospital operates under a community/academic hybrid model. It boasts approximately 800 staffed beds and 90,000 ED patient visits per year with a 25% admission rate. It is a Level I Trauma Center and a tertiary care referral center for the state of Indiana. Emergency Medicine residents rotate through the Emergency Department and each of the six ICUs in the hospital, as well as the ORs on their anesthesia experience.
Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital
Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital is the county hospital for Marion County. It is a Level I Trauma Center and Burn Center. The hospital has approximately 315 staffed beds, and the Emergency Department sees 100,000 patients per year with a 14% admission rate.
Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health
Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health is a free-standing quaternary care referral center. It is a pediatric Level I Trauma Center and a Burn Center. It is the only free-standing children’s hospital in Indiana. It boasts 280 staffed beds, and the ED manages approximately 50,000 patient visits per year with a 16% admission rate. Emergency Medicine residents rotate through the pediatric ED, pediatric ICU and ORs on their pediatric anesthesia rotation.
IU Health Simulation Center
The IU Health Simulation Center at Fairbanks Hall serves as the primary training site. It is a 30,000 square-foot facility containing 10 clinic rooms, five inpatient rooms, three acute care rooms, an operating room, a delivery suite and a simulated ambulance bay. Multiple high-fidelity and low-fidelity mannequins are available, including adults, children, babies, newborns and a birthing mother. The center is equipped with dedicated debriefing rooms with full AV support to debrief and support skill development.
