Student Interest Groups (SIGs) are registered organizations that are founded and led by students at Indiana University School of Medicine. Students may develop and found a student interest group based on any theme of interest to members of the medical student population.

Orthopaedic Surgery SIG

The OrthoSIG is dedicated to serving the needs of students with an interest in orthopaedic surgery. Our goal is to provide invaluable mentoring and professional development opportunities for these students and to serve as the primary source of information regarding residencies and careers in orthopaedic surgery. We aim to achieve this goal by collaborating with orthopaedic surgery faculty, residents, and staff to host several educational events; such as faculty lectures, surgical skills workshops, research panel discussion, journal clubs, and service events throughout the year.

Otolaryngology SIG

The Otolaryngology Student Interest Group helps support and advise students interested in the field of otolaryngology. Through mentorship and shared knowledge, the group helps students prepare for a career in ear, nose and throat medicine and surgery.

Pediatrics SIG

The purpose of the Pediatric SIG is to provide education on pediatric medicine for the student body, to help students develop an interest in a career in pediatrics, and to promote community service in pediatric healthcare/well-being for our community by hosting educational events, volunteer events, and by providing research opportunities to students.

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation SIG

The purpose of the PM&R SIG is to raise awareness about the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) and physiatrists’ role in patient care. The PM&R SIG will educate students about the different topics in PM&R including spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, pediatric, chronic pain, sports medicine, and orthopedics. This organization will do this by arranging to meet different physiatrists, organizing workshops, and providing volunteer opportunities throughout the academic term.

Preventative Medicine and Public Health SIG

This SIG deepens student public health knowledge and expose them to important public health issues. This will also serve as a SIG for those interested in pursuing Preventative Medicine Residency and/or fellowship and we will also discuss other MD careers in public health. Throughout the school year, our group will recruit faculty and affiliates to present on various public health topics and connect students with population health research opportunities. We will also invite preventative medicine residents and physicians to share their career journeys. Overall, our goals are to increase medical student awareness and understanding of public health issues on social, political and environmental levels as well as promote awareness of Preventative Medicine residency opportunities.

Psychiatry SIG

The purpose of this registered student organization is to provide information and coordinate events to stimulate an interest in psychiatry for students by helping them decide if a career in psychiatry is right for them, and providing an opportunity for networking and sharing practical information about preparing for, applying for, and interviewing for psychiatry residency.

Radiology SIG

The purpose of RadSIG is to cultivate and serve as a resource for medical students with an interest in the field of radiology. RadSIG is responsible for hosting events to introduce students to the field of radiology, its various subspecialties, providing avenues to attain useful information for students who are in the process of applying to radiology residency programs, assisting students in acquiring mentors (current residents, staff, etc.), and promoting research and shadowing opportunities..
