First Year Orientation

Orientation is designed to provide vital information about campus resources and items to complete before joining IU School of Medicine. It will also allow learners to speak virtually with current students, faculty and staff in order to have questions addressed.

Class of 2028 orientation: July 29–Aug. 2, 2024

Orientation components include:

MD Student News

A newsletter series geared to providing learners with key information throughout their medical school career.

Orientation RoadMAP Canvas

The RoadMAP contains important transitional information through modules about student requirements, resources and next steps. Students should complete all modules by the first day of orientation on July 31. Lead advisors will post announcements regularly about upcoming deadlines.

The RoadMAP will be released in early Spring.

Hybrid and on-campus programming

Achieving Inclusivity in Medicine (AIM)

IU School of Medicine Medical Student Education has partnered with the Academy of Communication in Healthcare, a national leader in relationship-centered health care communication training and research, to develop a customized program called Achieving Inclusivity in Medicine (AIM). This one-day program for first-year medical students during orientation is designed to foster diversity, equity and inclusion by centering relationships, communication skills and personal stories.

A key goal of the program is to work toward eliminating health disparities through better communication with patients and colleagues. AIM represents one of the programs being developed through the $7 million Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) grant awarded to IU School of Medicine to help the school educate medical students to better care for underserved populations.
