IU School of Medicine organizes many signature events throughout the academic year for medical students. Other events can be viewed on the IU School of Medicine calendar.

Fall Session (August through December)

First Year Orientation

The required statewide First-Year Orientation is held each August on incoming student’s home campus and introduces incoming first-year students to IU School of Medicine. Reach out to our First Year Experience at fye@iu.edu for any questions!

Mock Interviews

Medical students are invited to participate in mock interviews to simulate what they will experience as they apply for their residencies.

Student Leadership Reception

Each year the IU School of Medicine Dean’s Office sponsors a Student Leadership reception to recognize student leaders for their hard work and contributions to the school.

Gold Humanism Honor Society

IU School of Medicine hosts an annual ceremony to honor fourth year medical students, residents and faculty being inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Spring Session (January through May)

Student Leadership Interview Day

Medical Student Council provides a variety of appointed leadership opportunities available through an interview process. Elections are also held for classes officers and SIGs.

IU School of Medicine Second Year Show (2YS)

The IU School of Medicine Second Year Show (2YS) is an annual, student-run production produced by second-year students. The program aims to unify faculty, staff and students from all nine campuses for a night of fun and camaraderie.

Match Day

During Match Day, fourth-year medical students across the country learn where they will spend the next step of their career: residency.

Senior Awards Celebration

The IU School of Medicine Senior Awards Celebration is an annual program sponsored by the graduating class.

Indy Transfer Orientation

IU School of Medicine offers the optional Indy Transfer Orientation for Phase 1, Year 2 students transitioning to Indianapolis for Phase 2. This event is for students to become integrated and familiar with the Indianapolis campus, leadership, and helpful resources before they make the transition for their clerkships.

White Coat Ceremony

The White Coat Ceremony marks a transformation for students as they transition between Phase 1 and Phase 2 of their medical education. This event welcomes students into the clinical phase of their training in the presence of family, friends and school leadership.

Graduate Recognition

Graduates of the IU School of Medicine traditionally gather with friends, family and school leadership at the Graduate Recognition Ceremony to celebrate the graduates’ accomplishments. IU School of Medicine graduates may also choose to attend the IU Indianapolis commencement.
