Road to Graduation

Fourth year medical students have a lot to prepare for as they near the end of their medical education. Even the coveted Graduate Recognition requires loads of preparation. We recognize that the number of things we ask of you can be confusing and even overwhelming, so to help keep it organized we have compiled a to-do list of tasks for graduation. Below are the individual tasks you must complete before you walk across that stage.

If you see an "Act Now" link, it is now open for you to complete. We’ll also notify of items to complete via MD Student News, so check that every Monday at 5:30 p.m. ET when it arrives in your inbox. Be aware, deadlines are firm and late entries will not be accepted. Please plan accordingly to make sure you can take full advantage of everything this ceremony has to offer.

Graduating Student Checklist

If your photo was taken by DigitalPix, the IU School of Medicine composite company, your name and photo will appear in the Class of 2025 composite — you’re done! Item complete!

If you had your ERAS photo taken by a different photographer, you should submit your photo by Dec. 13 for inclusion in the composite. See details on associated costs, photo guidelines, and more.

Honor outstanding IU School of Medicine faculty, staff and fellow students by nominating them for special recognition. Is there a classmate you want to see speak at graduation? Put their name (or your own) forward!

This will include approval to use your name and photo, as well as affirming your correct name and pronunciation, at the ceremony.

You will receive a notification from IUI Registrar and University Events regarding updating your degree name and address via the Student Center in preparation for graduation. The emails from IUI will link directly to the page in your Student Center where you can update this information. Please note that the degree name is the name that will appear on your diploma that will be shipped to your home address (student home address in the Student Center), so please make sure you update both in the Student Center.

Do you need any accommodations for family or friends attending the Match Day celebration? Provide those by March 7 for special seating or interpreters, if needed.

We’ll provide information on where to pick your Class of 2025 Composite photo, as well as your Match Day shirt, as the day approaches.

  • A key date in the transition from undergraduate to graduate medical education, Match Day reveals to students where they will begin their career as physicians in residency training programs.
  • Family and friends of students are invited to attend, but space is limited. Matching students are asked to bring no more than 3-4 guests. This is a standing event, like a reception. There will be a quiet room available to view the live stream, if desired.
  • The event is being held on the fourth floor of the IU Indianapolis Campus Center, 420 University Blvd., Indianapolis, IN 46202. Visit the link above for parking info and a general schedule.
  • Please be considerate of all attendees and do not bring signs, balloons, banners, confetti, or noise makers to the event.
  • A Facebook livestream will be available on the day of the event.

Based on your class’s award nominations, decide what faculty and staff are most deserving of recognition!

Let everyone know where your next step in residency will be in the official Graduate Recognition Ceremony program!

All IU School of Medicine graduates must wear academic regalia (gown, hood, tam, tassel) at the ceremony. Orders will be through the official IU supplier, Herff Jones.

The event will honor the faculty and staff for their excellence in teaching and support for the Class of 2025. The event will also recognize outstanding accomplishments of class members. 

This is it — the big day. Close the door on your IU School of Medicine journey and open a new one for your bright career ahead.

The ceremony is set for 2 p.m. ET at the Sagamore Ballroom in the Indiana Convention Center, 100 S. Capitol Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46225.
