IU hosts a bi-monthly ECHO on best practices for treating pregnant and postpartum individuals and infants impacted by Opioid Use Disorder.
Medication Resources
The National Institutes of Health's LactMed® database contains information on drugs and other chemicals to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed. It includes information on the levels of such substances in breast milk and infant blood, and the possible adverse effects in the nursing infant. Suggested therapeutic alternatives to those drugs are provided, where appropriate. All data are derived from the scientific literature and fully referenced. A peer review panel reviews the data to assure scientific validity and currency.

MotherToBaby, a service of the non-profit Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS), is the nation’s leading authority and most trusted source of evidence-based information on the benefit or risk of medications and other exposures during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. We specialize in answering questions about the benefit/risk of exposures, such as medications, vaccines, chemicals, herbal products, substances of abuse, maternal health conditions and much more, during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Our no-cost information service is available to people who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding, their family members, health professionals, and the general public via chat, text, phone, and email in both English and Spanish.

Postpartum Support International (PSI) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote awareness, prevention and treatment of mental health issues related to childbearing in every country worldwide.
1.800.944.4PPD (4773): PSI’s toll-free Patient HelpLine serves over 1,000 callers a month and is staffed by a volunteer team of PSI trained responders who rapidly refer callers to appropriate local resources, including emergency services. The Patient HelpLine also offers Spanish-language support – press 1 for Spanish.
PSI Perinatal Psychiatric Consult Line: The consultation line is available for medical professionals who have questions about the mental health care related to pregnant and postpartum patients and pre-conception planning. The Perinatal Psychiatric Consult Line is staffed by reproductive psychiatrists who are members of PSI and specialists in the treatment of perinatal mental health disorders. Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Program for Mom's Depression (MCPAP) Assessment of Depression Severity and Treatment Options highlights the signs and symptoms of depression and options for treatment as they relate to clinical assessment and/or EPDS score.
Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Program for Mom's Depression (MCPAP) Bipolar Disorder Screen was derived from the Composite International Diagnostic Interview-Based Bipolar Disorder Screening Scale to be used prior to starting treatment with an antidepressant.
Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Program for Mom's Depression (MCPAP) Screening Algorithm for Obstetric Providers provides guidance for obstetric providers and clinical support staff on administering the EPDS and next steps depending on the EPDS score. The first side is a simplified version of the algorithm. Side two provides more detailed information including talking points and suggested language re: how to discuss the EPDS and resultant scores with the patients.
The EPDS is a widely used and validated 10-item questionnaire to identify women experiencing depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The EPDS is also available in Spanish, and in a variety of other languages including, but not limited to, Arabic, Portuguese, and Farsi.
