Psychiatry Residency at IU School of Medicine

A state leader in psychiatric residency training

Psychiatry Graduate Medical Education

The Department of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine offers three accredited residency programs for individuals who have completed undergraduate medical education: a Categorical Psychiatry Residency program based in Indianapolis, a Categorical Psychiatry Residency program in Vincennes and a Triple Board Residency for those interested in training in Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in one program.

By introducing the basics in diagnosis and pharmacological treatments in the first year of training followed by the subspecialties of psychiatry in the second year, residents have the opportunity to apply their techniques to patient care. The latter half of the program integrates medical and scientific literature with outstanding interview techniques and excellent therapeutic skills. The last year of the program allows residents to follow their own tracks and interests.
