Veteran's Healthcare SIG | The main goal of the Veteran’s Healthcare SIG is to explore, better understand and communicate the issues and unique needs that factor into the health care of veterans. To specifically accomplish this goal, we will organize informational sessions in which panels of veterans discuss their positive and negative experiences in the healthcare field, as well as panels in which doctors who primarily serve veterans can educate the student body on their experiences and on practices in which to better care for those who have served our country. We will also volunteer in clinics that focus on providing care for patients (i.e. the VA), as well as work with local organizations whose main purposes are to improve the lives of veterans in Indiana. |

Wilderness Medicine SIG | The purpose of the Wilderness Medicine Student Interest Group is to advance student exposure to hands-on training, research, and outings related to wilderness medicine for students at Indiana University School of Medicine. Our ultimate goal is to prepare future physicians with applicable skills and knowledge about wilderness medicine, which can be applied to their personal and professional outdoor endeavors. Some of our past events include Advanced Wilderness Life Support classes, search and rescue trainings, and introduction to SCUBA and diving medicine, to name a few. We look forward to getting more people medically prepared to embark on their own outdoor adventures! Stay hydrated! |
