Student Interest Groups (SIGs) are registered organizations that are founded and led by students at Indiana University School of Medicine. Students may develop and found a student interest group based on any theme of interest to members of the medical student population.

Hospice and Palliative Medicine SIG | The Hospice and Palliative Medicine SIG is dedicated to serving IUSM students with any level of interest in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. This group aims to foster meaningful relationships between students and current professionals in the field, as well as provide unique educational and service opportunities within the palliative care community.

Infectious Disease SIG | The purpose of this organization is to provide students valuable insights into what infectious disease (ID) practitioners encounter at both a local and global level: researching and managing microbial diseases, combatting clinical outbreaks and epidemics, improving patient safety and outcomes, applying new therapeutics/technologies in a world of evolving infectious pathogens, and various other aspects of the field. The IDSIG will also work to provide useful information and mentorship for students who are pursuing a career in ID, as well as create student volunteer opportunities within the community. |

Internal Medicine/Pediatrics SIG | The Med/Peds SIG has within in its purpose several aims. First is to educate students about the specialty and its unique career options. Second is to provide opportunities for students to network with current residents and faculty in the field to build strong professional relationships and guide them in their future goals. Third is to foster the professional and personal growth of individuals interested in the fields of internal medicine and pediatrics. |

Latino Medical Student Association | The Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) aims to unite, empower and advocate for the health of Latinx medical students, and the Latinx community of Indiana, by providing mentorship, creating and participating in community service opportunities, furthering the education and elevating the voices that advocate for the rights of all under represented. |

Med-Peds SIG | The Med-Peds SIG is a group that provides the opportunity for students to learn about the four-year combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency and gain mentorship/connections. This is achieved through opportunities to engage with Med-Peds residents, faculty members, and program directors via various social and medical sessions as well as the opportunity to receive a Med-Peds resident mentor. |

Medical Ethics SIG | The Medical Ethics Student Interest Group provides a space for medical students to engage with the ethical challenges which face medical trainees and practitioners. Though panels, small group discussions, and case studies, we build a supportive community where we can ask questions, seek answers, and understand diverse perspectives. We also offer support to students interested in graduate training in Bioethics or Philosophy both at and beyond IU, and are the organizers of EthicsLab, a student-run research collective which organizes research opportunities for students interested in medical ethics and humanities. |
