Research in the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

Training the next generation of clinician-scientists and researchers is a critical mission for Krannert Institute of Cardiology at IU School of Medicine. Cardiology fellows have the opportunity to work with diverse and internationally-recognized faculty in state-of-the-art facilities. The Institute has renowned investigators involved in basic science, clinical, and translational research funded by the NIH, AHA, ACC, philanthropic support, and other organizations. At the beginning of the fellowship, all fellows are assigned a successful faculty member as an academic advisor for broad mentorship of scholarly activity aligned with the fellow's career goals throughout the duration of training. The research environment allows fellows to interact with a variety of graduate students and postdoctoral research fellows across multiple disciplines. Fellows can expect to gain skillsets that are not only applicable within their areas of scholarly endeavor, but also in manuscript and grant writing, data analysis, and presentations.

Qualified fellows seeking one to two years of dedicated, mentored research experience embedded in their cardiology fellowship training may be eligible for NIH T32 support and other available funding mechanisms. Such advanced research training is coordinated by the program director and the associate program director for research. The length of training, incorporation into the clinical curriculum and identification of mentor will be considered. If interested, please contact plummers@iu.edu or 317-274-0700.
