Fellowship Training

Indiana University School of Medicine offers ACGME-accredited and highly competitive fellowship programs in cardiovascular medicine including adult congenital heart disease, advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, cardiovascular disease, clinical cardiac electrophysiology and interventional cardiology. These programs attract candidates of the highest quality. In fact, cardiovascular medicine fellows have received awards within the Department of Medicine and in competitions at national scientific meetings.

Graduates of the cardiovascular medicine fellowship programs at IU School of Medicine have gone on to cardiology department or section leadership positions at Massachusetts General Hospital, University of Michigan, Duke University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Oklahoma, University of Utah, and other prestigious academic institutions. Cardiovascular scientists from thirteen countries have studied at IU School of Medicine. Graduates of cardiovascular clinical training programs have established prominent cardiology groups throughout the midwest.

Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology

Fellows in this program play an integral role in the management of clinical heart failure, surgical and percutaneous interventions, cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory device therapy, pulmonary hypertension and end-of-life care and management.

Cardiovascular Disease

Accepting five fellows each year, this program benefits from faculty using modern clinical facilities and resources to train and advance the quality of cardiovascular care.

Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology 

Fellows in this program train in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of heart rhythm disturbances. Clinical care facilities are equipped with the most advanced electrophysiology equipment.

Interventional Cardiology 

Fellows in this program provide cardiac and peripheral diagnostic, interventional and congenital catheterization procedures for patients and investigate new treatment modalities.

Adult Congenital Heart Disease

The program provides advanced training in the management of ACHD, cardio-obstetrics, heart failure/pulmonary hypertension and transplantation, advanced imaging (cardiac CT/CMR), diagnostic and interventional catheterization, electrophysiology, and cardiothoracic surgery in adults with a variety of congenital heart defects.
