Teaching Impact Awards

This award (previously known as the Volunteer and Adjunct Faculty Teaching Awards) honors faculty excellence in teaching among faculty members who volunteer their teaching efforts at IU School of Medicine (e.g., adjunct, non-paid affiliates, professor of practice) from all nine IU School of Medicine campuses.

Nominate a candidate

Nominations will open May 1 and are due June 10. Winners will be announced at the Fall All School Meeting.

Eligibility

Nominees must:

  • Receive no paycheck from IU for your voluntary education or teaching contributions to IU School of Medicine (e.g., clinical preceptor)

  • Receive a paycheck from IU only for your part-time education or teaching contributions to IU School of Medicine (e.g., clerkship site leader)

  • Perform a role that includes direct teaching of IU School of Medicine medical students and/or residents

  • Be in good standing

  • Have demonstrated sustained teaching excellence

  • Have completed at least three years of service at IU School of Medicine

  • Not have received the Teaching Impact Award in the two years prior to the current cycle

Eligible individuals may be nominated by any IU School of Medicine faculty member (this includes regional campus deans, clerkship directors, clerkship site leaders, or peers), learner (medical student, resident, fellow) or staff.

Documentation

The nomination (submitted by a faculty, medical student, medical resident, fellow, or staff) should outline how the nominee has demonstrated a sustained level of teaching excellence. 

Selection

Up to 80 awards will be given each year. The IU School of Medicine teaching awards committee will review the documentation as well as recommendations from chairs and campus deans in making their selections. The teaching awards committee includes representatives from several regional campuses.

Timeline 

The deadline for nominations is June 10. The Award winners will be announced at the fall all school meeting.

Notification and Recognition

FAPD will notify all selected recipients. Award winners will be recognized at the IU School of Medicine fall all school meeting. Awardees will be listed on the FAPD website.
