Pediatric Critical Care Medicine faculty at IU School of Medicine provide clinical services at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Riley Hospital is the only quaternary care children’s hospital in Indiana. The children who receive care from this pediatric specialty team come from cities and towns throughout Indiana and the United States. The faculty physicians on the critical care team work closely with various other teams at Riley at IU Health, including the Heart Center, Transplant Department, Trauma Department and Neurology Department.

This physician team includes specially trained pediatric critical care nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and nutritionists and sees a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions, including congenital heart disease, post-operative recovery, transplants, traumatic injuries, burn injuries and smoke inhalation, sepsis, respiratory failure, inborn errors of metabolism, and pediatric cancer.
Services
Treatments provided include advanced mechanical ventilation, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and targeted temperature control for children recovering from cardiac arrest. Services include intubation and mechanical ventilation, procedural sedation, and air and ambulance transport service.
