Student and Trainee Awards

The Medical Neuroscience Graduate Program and Stark Neurosciences Research Institute at Indiana University School of Medicine offers annual fellowships and awards for graduate students and trainees — the next generation of neuroscientists.

The Paul and Carole Stark Medical Neuroscience Graduate Fellowship is for PhD students in the Indiana BioMedical Gateway (IBMG) program and MD/PhD students in the Medical Scientist Training Program at IU School of Medicine transitioning to the Medical Neuroscience program. The fellowship provides funding — a stipend, health insurance, and tuition for one academic year.

The Larry Kays Fellowship is eligible for Medical Neuroscience graduate students who have a PhD candidacy, are current with program requirements and are within one year of graduation. The fellowship was created by neurologist Dr. Larry Kays, who designated part of his trust for monetary awards for students pursuing careers in basic neuroscience. The award is $2,500.

Stark Neurosciences Research Institute is also home to the Training Grant on Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease-Related Dementias, co-led by Bruce Lamb, PhD; Gary Landreth, PhD and Andrew Saykin, PsyD. This National Institute on Aging-funded T32 grant program selects four postdoctoral researchers and four predoctoral students, appointments for typically two years based on performance. The appointment provides a stipend/pay with health insurance, tuition, travel and lab supplies. The program has enlisted 25 faculty at IU School of Medicine who have a broad range of expertise including data science, non-invasive imaging, the development and study of animal models, genomics, epidemiology, drug development and clinical research.
