Blood Sample (optional)

Up to three tubes (3.5 tablespoons) of blood may be collected from research participants. However, the amount is determined by an individual's weight. Kids can give a saliva (spit) sample instead. Giving a blood or saliva sample is optional.

These samples will not be analyzed by the FIT Core, but other researchers may ask for the samples in their work. The samples are stored in the Indiana Biobank.

illustration shows steps of blood samples for research. 1: A participant's blood sample is collected. 2: Health information and test results will be added. 3: the sample and health information will be kept safe and secure. 4: the person's name will be removed before information is shared with approved researchers. 5: information may help these researchers discover new ways to help people get and stay healthy.
