Life in Indianapolis

From affordability to accessibility, learn about the city that thousands of other medical students and residents call home.

Why Indianapolis?

Alexander J. Moody, PhD, PGY 1

"Indianapolis is such a lively and exciting city that I am always nervous that I will not be able to experience it in its entirety within two years. One of the things I love the most is the sports and athletic culture of the university and Indy. Not only are there numerous sports teams and national events, but there are also many places to exercise like the urban trails and the IU Indianapolis natatorium. Indianapolis has one of everything and everyone. Night and day, all kinds of people, events, and activities are going on that would satisfy everyone’s likes. I am trying to work through all of the recommendations I have from previous residents, but the task to do so is enormous."

Douglas N. Goddard, PhD, PGY 1

"I love Indianapolis for its vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere. My boys absolutely enjoy the Children's Museum — despite several visits, we still haven’t explored it all! We’ve also found affordable housing and excellent schools just outside the city. Plus, the nearby state parks offer beautiful escapes into nature, perfect for outdoor adventures. With easy access to both urban activities and natural surroundings, along with family-oriented events, Indianapolis strikes the ideal balance for our family."
