Transitional Year Residency at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital

ten residents stand outside on a sunny summer day in nice clothes with their arms around each other

The Transitional Year Residency program at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie offers one clinical base year of training prior to entering advanced specialty residency programs. Residents who come through our program go on to train in a variety of specialties — including anesthesiology, dermatology, radiology, radiation oncology and physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) — all over the country.

Transitional residents are integrated into care teams at Ball Memorial Hospital, with the same expectations and opportunities as your categorical counterparts. While you will always have supervision and support, you will also be given progressive autonomy and a sense of ownership over your patients. This reliance on your expertise, combined with the learning opportunities the program provides, will ensure you are fully prepared for any advanced programs you choose. And you will have the added benefit of a schedule that allows you to explore electives you believe will give you an advantage or help fulfill your aspirations as you continue your career.

Our program is closely integrated with the Internal Medicine Residency program, so we encourage you to explore their program as well.
