Volunteering for IU After Retirement

The following is a list of example volunteer opportunities for retired faculty. To express interests in any of the listed volunteer opportunities, use the contact information provided. When in doubt, feel free to contact fapdd@iu.edu.

Faculty Development
- Assist with planning IU School of Medicine retiree engagement activities.
- Conduct career development consultations.
- Participate in faculty development presentations.
- Serve on an IU School of Medicine committee.
Education
- Become a physician mentor.
- Teach (FCP, intersession, small groups, etc.). Find teaching opportunities.
- Volunteer at the student outreach clinic. Email Javier Sevilla-Martir, MD.
Research
- Serve as a mentor and/or review manuscripts for scholars in the CTSI I3 program. Email John Spence.
- Serve as a mentor and/or review manuscripts for Program to Launch URiM Success (a faculty development program for minority scholars). Email Brownsyne Tucker Edmonds.
Service
- Volunteer with the Center for Global Health. Email Miriam Barr.

Working for IU After Retirement

Returning to a paid IU position is possible, however, the rules of a bona fide separation must be followed. A bona fide separation consists of the following requirements: a 30-day break in employment. Certain programs have additional eligibility restrictions.
