Fellowship Training

The Indiana University School of Medicine department of Anesthesia provides four fellowship opportunities for subspecialty training. Programs in pediatric anesthesia, pediatric cardiac anesthesia, multidisciplinary pain, and dental anesthesia are each one year in duration.

  • Dental Anesthesia Fellowship
Dental graduates from an ADA-accredited American or Canadian dental school are eligible to apply for this one-year non-ACGME-accredited Dental Anesthesia Fellowship program. Fellows are exposed to dental anesthesiology through intensive training in airway management, intraveneous access and cardiovascular physiology.
  • Multidisciplinary Pain Fellowship

The Multidisciplinary Pain Fellowship at IU School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited one-year post-residency program that provides comprehensive training in all aspects of multidisciplinary pain anesthesiology.

  • Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship
The Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at IU School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited one-year post-residency program that offers comprehensive training in all aspects of pediatric anesthesiology. Fellows train at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis, which is Indiana’s only hospital devoted exclusively to providing comprehensive care to children. Graduates can expect to leave the program fully prepared in the conduct of anesthesia for neonates, infants, children and adolescents undergoing the full spectrum of surgical subspecialty procedures including cardiac, major neurologic and transplantation surgery.
  • Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship
Riley Hospital for Children has one of the highest acuity of illness levels among reporting hospitals. More than 19,000 pediatric anesthetics are performed each year, with over 500 of those being cardiac surgery cases and more than 600 being cardiac catheterization procedures. The Advanced Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia is associated with the ACGME-accredited core pediatric fellowship at Riley Hospital. One 12-month fellowship position is available each year.
