Fellowship Training

The Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship at IU School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited one-year post-residency program. With clinical exposure to a medically complex patient population, innovative surgical techniques and the latest technology in minimally invasive and percutaneous interventions, fellows can expect to become expert consultants in the subspecialty.

Riley Hospital for Children has one of the highest acuity of illness levels among reporting hospitals. More than 19,000 pediatric anesthetics are performed each year, with over 500 of those being cardiac surgery cases and more than 600 being cardiac catheterization procedures. The Advanced Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia is associated with the ACGME-accredited core pediatric fellowship at Riley Hospital. One 12-month fellowship position is available each year.

The Multidisciplinary Pain Fellowship at IU School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited one-year post-residency program that provides comprehensive training in all aspects of multidisciplinary pain anesthesiology. The focus of the fellowship is the training for interventional pain management of the adult patient. Being multidisciplinary, fellows rotate through other departments to round out their knowledge of chronic pain rehabilitation, palliative care for terminal illness, neurology, neuroradiology, and psychiatry and addiction.

The Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at IU School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited one-year post-residency program that offers comprehensive training in all aspects of pediatric anesthesiology. Fellows train at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis, which is Indiana’s only hospital devoted exclusively to providing comprehensive care to children. Graduates can expect to leave the program fully prepared in the conduct of anesthesia for neonates, infants, children and adolescents undergoing the full spectrum of surgical subspecialty procedures including cardiac, major neurologic and transplantation surgery.

The Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine fellowship at IU School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited one-year post-residency program that offers comprehensive training in all aspects of acute pain medicine and regional anesthesia. Fellows train at 5 different clinical sites in Indianapolis. Our large array of training centers allows for a wide variety of clinical opportunities serving a broad range of patient populations.
