Industry Research and Trials

Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Surgery research centers and partner sites support innovative and collaborative basic, clinical, and translational research and industry trials on a broad range of key scientific, medical, and health care topics.

Along with more than 500,000 square feet of space available for research activities in a dozen buildings on the Indianapolis campus, IU School of Medicine faculty, staff, and students are advancing discoveries in research facilities at its other statewide campuses and partner sites.

The Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) epitomizes a culture of collaboration among the state’s premier research universities, comprised of the IU School of Medicine, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame, and robust public-private partnerships. The institute also nurtures important connections with the region’s leading biomedical research and business organizations, with full support from the state government.

CTSI aims to foster an infrastructure that promotes the translation of basic laboratory, a pillar of research, and population-based research into clinical trials and health practices.

The Clinical Research Centers (CRCs) are a component of the Indiana CTSI. There are three CRCs offered through the Indiana CTSI on the IUPUI campus. One is at IU Health University Hospital, one at Riley Hospital for Children, and the third is at the Neuroscience Center of Excellence in Goodman Hall.

Research at IU School of Medicine is supported by designated institutional cores and shared resources. These facilities offer cutting-edge scientific services, enabling access to high-end equipment, advanced technologies, and specialized expertise for all school investigators.

Core facilities are a pivotal part of the university’s research infrastructure, providing resources that allow groundbreaking science to happen. Core Facilities Administration provides financial support, administrative oversight, professional development, assessment, and communication of shared research resources to advance the research mission of IU School of Medicine.
