The Microscopy Core is a nationally recognized service core that provides consultation and access to state-of-the-art microscope equipment. To better serve regional diabetes researchers, this core provides consultation and specialized services for intravital microscopy of pancreas and transplanted islets, FRET assays, and fluorescent biosensors for analysis of intracellular signaling cascades.

Fees for Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Investigators:
- Epifluorescence microscopes and digital workstations: $25/hour
- Leica SP8, Olympus Fluoview 1000 MPE1, Fluoview 100 MPE2, Spinning Disk Confocal: $30/hour
- Technical assistance or training: $60/hour + system rate
The hourly rate for use of confocal/MPE systems reflects a 50 percent discount provided to Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Disease investigators that is made possible by a $30/hour subsidy provided by the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Disease. For Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Disease investigators who are also associated with the IU O’Brien Center or the IU Center of Excellence in Molecular Hematology, projects are evaluated by the P30 directors to determine whether the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Disease hourly rate subsidy is necessary/warranted. Users are billed directly by the Indiana Center for Biological Microscopy.
