Clinical Trial Opportunities

Investigators at the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases conduct a number a clinical trials focused on the prevention and treatment of Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and obesity.

The goal of this clinical study is to develop a CGM-based marker for predicting the progression to diabetes in people with cystic fibrosis. 

PI: Viral N Shah, MD 
Eligibility: Persons with cystic fibrosis with and without prediabetes, aged 12-55 years.
Duration: 2-3 visits, approximately 2-3 hours. 
Procedure: Eligibility questions, CGM placement (up to 10 days), and blood tests. 
Compensation: up to $75

The goal of this clinical study is to compare the accuracy of filter paper-based specimen compared to venous blood for islet autoantibody measurements in newly diagnosed people with Type 1 diabetes

PI: Viral N Shah, MD
Eligibility: Newly diagnosed person with type 1 diabetes (within 14 days of diagnosis), aged >1 year.
Duration: One visit, approximately 1 hour.  Can be done at bedside.
Procedure: Two fingersticks and a blood draw; a short survey on blood spot collection experience.
Compensation: $150

The goal of this clinical study is to develop a CGM-based marker that can predict the progression to Type 1 diabetes.

Eligibility: Participants with stage 1 or stage 2 Type 1 diabetes.
Duration: Visit every 3 months up to 3 years.
Procedure: A continuous glucose monitor (up to 14 days) placement every 3 months and glucose and other tests every 6 months up to 3 years
Compensation: $200-600

The Rare and Atypical Diabetes Network (RADIANT) aims to discover and define rare and atypical forms of diabetes. These refined diagnoses will be used by diabetes researchers, physicians, and patients to accurately explain their disease. The study entails genetic and clinical testing for enrolled participants.
