The new normal: Match Day 2020 celebrations move online

Match day is one of the pinnacle moments of medical school. This monumental event is touted the climax of 4th year. It is the event when students see the results of their countless hours of study and patient care, laborious interview path, and strategic rank list formation all come together in one moment. The moment is shared amongst classmates and celebrated in unity as one of the final times students are together before graduation.

As we have all seen, the COVID 19 pandemic spares nothing. New entries were added to history books as students participated in Match day on phones and computers via Zoom, and students filled their personal stories with how their Match Day was unlike any other in the chronicle of IUSM history.

While Match Day 2020 may have looked different than years past, future physicians across the country were still able to take part in the day and share the celebrations with friends and family. You can find the full recording of the Match video and also view and share the recap video online. IU Newsroom also published a story about Match Day 2020 on their website.

The Department of Emergency Medicine eagerly welcomed twenty-three new residents into the program this year. Coming from nineteen different medical schools and sixteen states, this impressive group will bring unique talents, experiences and backgrounds to Indianapolis.

We are ecstatic to welcome the newest members of our IUEM family! With such a diverse class from around the country, each has something unique to offer to our residency program, and we can't wait to see what great things they do here!
