As the IU School of Medicine MD Class of 1975 approaches its 45-year reunion on June 12-13, 2020, the time is right to support the class scholarship endowment. The average student debt at the end of medical school is over $214,000. With this burden weighing down new physicians, medical students face delaying their lives and paying this debt for up to 20 years.
Together, it’s possible to make a difference in these students’ lives. The Class of 1975 Steven C. Beering Scholarship will live in perpetuity and support medical students for years to come. Please consider making a gift or pledge today to help shape the future of medicine.
Our class scholarship is named in honor of Steven C. Beering, MD, a true leader in the IU School of Medicine community. He was named dean of the school in 1974, the youngest dean in the school’s history, and served in that role until 1983, when he was selected as Purdue University’s ninth president. Dr. Beering’s legacy is one of service to those in need. His work in scholarships offers opportunities to students from underprivileged backgrounds, providing them with the same freedom to learn, experience internships, and take part in research that more advantaged students enjoy. Our class scholarship helps further that legacy.
