2022 Medical Alumni Weekend

What makes IU School of Medicine so unique? Celebrating your class reunion offers you a chance to see the classmates and places that made medical school a defining period of your life. Visit campus, reminisce with friends, and enjoy a schedule packed with fun activities.

For 2022 the regularly scheduled reunion classes are invited to attend along with select classes whose reunions were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022 we celebrate the classes of 1965, 1966, 1967, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1986, and 1987.

Book Your Hotel Room

Book your room at the Marriott Indianapolis North which serves as the host site for Medical Alumni Weekend. IU rates are $155 per night plus taxes and fees. Last day to book is Saturday, May 21, 2022.

Space is limited in the IU room block.

Early Bird Reception

Mingle with classmates and fellow alumni in town early for Medical Alumni Weekend during an open house style reception at the Indianapolis Marriot North. The area surrounding the hotel, Keystone at the Crossing, offers numerous dining options that take reservations. Consider joining us before or after dinner with your classmates.

Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital Guided Walking Tour

Partnering with the Indiana University School of Medicine, Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Eskenazi Hospital opened in 2013 replacing Wishard Memorial Hospital.

Guided Walking Campus Tour with History Lesson

Hop on a bus and head to campus for a walking tour and an IU School of Medicine history lesson. The tour includes stops at the anatomy lab, the surgical skills lab, and Ruth Lilly Medical Library.  Following the tour, you will head to the auditorium for a lecture on IU School of Medicine history presented by William Schneider, PhD, author of “The Indiana University School of Medicine: A History.”

Dean’s Welcome Reception

Join Dean Jay Hess for a reception followed by a presentation by Richard Gunderman, MD, PhD. Dr.  Gunderman is a Chancellor’s Professor and pediatric radiologist. A favorite presenter of past Medical Alumni Weekends, Dr. Gunderman has been the recipient of the Indiana University Trustee’s Teaching Award ten times.

Class Dinners for Classes of 1965, 1966, 1967, 1970, 1971, 1975, 1976

If you're a member of the Class of 1965, 1966, 1967, 1970, 1971, 1975, or 1976 you'll reconnect with classmates over dinner. You and your classmates will gather for a reception prior to enjoying a three-course meal in a private room at the Marriott Indianapolis North.

Members of the classes of 1972, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1986, and 1987 will enjoy a comedy show by Brad Nieder, MD–The Healthy Humorist. Members of these classes will have their class dinners the following evening.

Back by popular demand is the comedian described as “Jerry Seinfeld with an MD”. Licensed physician Brad Nieder, MD will entertain you with his PG-rated, medical-based comedy at an exclusive show for Medical Alumni Weekend attendees. Dinner is included in admission. Don’t miss out on an enjoyable evening with friends and fellow classmates.

Members of the classes of 1965, 1966, 1967, 1970, 1971, 1975, and 1976 will attend a class dinner during the time of Friday's comedy show. Members of these classes will attend the comedy show the following evening.

Student Panel Discussion

An optional breakfast buffet will be available on the morning of June 11. Following breakfast, stay for an engaging and informative panel discussion with current IU medical students as they provide insight into what medical school is like today.

75th Annual Strawberry Shortcake Luncheon 

Join us for the seventy-fifth annual Strawberry Shortcake Luncheon as we honor this year’s recipients of the Distinguished Medical Alumni Award, George Sorrells, Jr., MD Community Physician Award, Early Career Achievement Award, and the Glenn W. Irwin, Jr., MD Distinguished Faculty Award. This time-honored tradition has been a highlight of Medical Alumni Weekend ever since IU physicians were first served the cream and crimson treat in 1947.

Tour of The Simulation Center at Fairbanks Hall 

The Simulation Center at Fairbanks Hall brings Indiana's current and future doctors, nurses and technicians together in collaborative practice in a variety of clinical settings. Teams practice on mannequins that respond like real patients, immerse themselves in computer-simulated surgery and react to complicated emergency room dramas. The Simulation Center provides consultation and simulation tools for specialties such as surgery, pediatrics, anesthesia and obstetrics.

Bus Tour of Downtown Indianapolis and IU School of Medicine

Board a bus for a cool and comfortable ride with amazing views of downtown Indianapolis, along with many IU School of Medicine sites, and the new Academic Health Center campus near 16th Street and Senate Avenue; a 44-acre medical campus expansion due for completion in 2026.
