Ryan Bowman
Executive Director of Advancement
Ryan joined Indiana University School of Medicine as Director of Alumni Relations in 2015. As part of this role, Ryan works with the school’s alumni staff and volunteer alumni board to engage over 25,000 alumni through events, programs and communications. Since 2018, Ryan has led a communications team responsible for the school’s alumni and donor communications. Before coming to the School of Medicine, Ryan served as the Director of Alumni Relations and Campus Ceremonies for IU Kokomo. Prior to joining IU in 2012, he was the community relations and promotions manager for the Indianapolis Indians Minor League baseball team. Ryan holds a B.A. in business administration from Ball State University, and an M.A. in sport administration from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. Ryan lives in Carmel with his wife, Julie, and their three daughters. When he’s outside the office, he enjoys traveling with his family and following his local sports teams.Contact Information

Bobby King
Director of Communications
Bobby King joined the Office of Gift Development in 2018 as the Director of Development and Alumni Communications. He oversees all communications from the Office of Gift Development and tells the stories of physicians, students, and patients whose lives are impacted by the School of Medicine.
Before joining our team, Bobby was a reporter with The Indianapolis Star newspaper. He has worked for newspapers throughout the Midwest and East Coast, among them The St. Petersburg Times, The Greenville News, and The Anderson Independent-Mail. He is a Kentucky native and earned a B.A. in journalism from the University of Kentucky.
He and his wife Tammy have three daughters.

Matthew Harris
Sr. Communications Manager
Matt joined the Office of Gift Development in 2015. In his role as a communications specialist, he tells the stories of physicians, students, and alumni who make up the IU School of Medicine community.
Before coming to the School of Medicine, Matt was a reporter for over a decade at newspapers in Pennsylvania, Arkansas, and Louisiana. An alum of the University of Missouri-Columbia, Matt has a B.A. in history, a B.J. with an emphasis in newspaper reporting, and a minor in economics.
He and his wife live in Indianapolis and are the parents of two stubborn basset hounds.

Angelica McLean-Johnson
Annual Giving Manager
Angelica joined the IU School of Medicine’s Office of Gift Development in 2022. As annual giving manager, she oversees all annual solicitations/mailings to the school’s alumni, faculty, and donors.
Prior to joining the School of Medicine, Angelica served as the assistant program director for Student & Family Connections at IUPUI. Angelica holds a bachelor’s in science education degree in communication disorders from the University of Arkansas and a Master of Education in student affairs in higher education from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
A native of Dallas, Angelica now lives near Speedway with her husband, Zach and their mini schnauzer, Bear. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, trying local eateries, and crocheting.

Heather Riley
Senior Marketing Specialist
Heather joined the Office of Gift Development as an intern during her junior year of college.
After graduation in 2018, she became a full-time member of the team as a marketing content specialist. She oversaw all graphic design and marketing projects for the office.
Heather now leads all email marketing campaigns, major giving days, and intern projects.
An Indiana University alum, Heather holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Communications. In her free time, she is an avid marathon runner, hiker, and world traveler.

Manali Bhetaria
Web Service Coordinator
Manali joined the IU School of Medicine’s Office of Gift Development & Alumni Relations in 2021 as its web service coordinator. Originally from Ahmedabad, India, she is also an IU graduate student working on a master’s degree in human-computer interaction. She completed her bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering at Nirma University in Ahmedabad. She aspires to be a digital user experience researcher.In her role as web service coordinator, Manali works her web coding magic to bring event experiences and donor impact stories to life for gift development and alumni web pages. Away from work, Manali enjoys hiking and traveling, trying new foods, reading, and giving special attention to the dogs and cats in her life.

David Metz
Video Producer
David is originally from Plainsboro, New Jersey. He joined the Office of Gift Development in August of 2021 as an intern while completing a degree in New Media at Indiana University. While living in Washington, DC, David previously had a career as a sommelier and wine director.
He now produces video content for the School of Medicine and the Office of Gift Development and Alumni Relations. His work can be viewed on the School of Medicine’s YouTube site.
You can often find David with his dog Leo in Broad Ripple at a local bark park.

Sue Johnson
Alumni Relations Specialist
Sue is a long-time veteran of the IU School of Medicine, first joining the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1990. She came to the Office of Gift Development in 2008, and has served multiple roles in the office throughout the years. She is currently an Alumni Relations Specialist, and coordinates the HOST program, which matches students interviewing for residency with host families in cities across the country.

Amber Kleopfer Senseny
Executive Director of Advancement, IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center
Amber joined the IU School of Medicine Office of Gift Development in 2002, putting her skills as a communicator to work advancing the mission of the organization that saved her father’s life after he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2000. Amber was the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center’s first annual giving officer. In that role, she focused on building relationships with donors giving less than $1,000 annually.
In 2006, she became the senior associate director of development for the cancer center. During that time, she focused on generating major gift support for research in the areas of lung cancer, leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and testis cancer. In 2018, Amber was appointed to her current role as director of development for the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center. In addition to leading the cancer center’s four-person team and major gift fundraising efforts, Amber also provides fundraising support for the Department of Radiation Oncology.She enjoys serving as the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center’s liaison with the Indiana Elks and the Indiana Lions. Amber earned her bachelor of science, summa cum laude, from the University of Evansville in 2000. She earned her master’s degree in 2003 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. A native of Hanover, Indiana, Amber now lives in Indianapolis with her husband and two sons.

Amanda Massey
Amanda joined the Office of Gift Development in 2022. As part of the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center’s development team, she creates and maintains relationships which allow donors to directly impact cancer treatment research, development, and education. Amanda’s focus areas include gastrointestinal, ovarian, breast, and testis cancer, most of which she has a personal connection to via the experiences of friends and family.
Before coming to the Office of Gift Development, Amanda served as a director of development for Ivy Tech Indianapolis, where she is also an adjunct instructor for the English department.
An alum of both IUPUI and the University of Indianapolis, she earned a BS in Psychology in 2008 and an MA in English in 2011. Amanda enjoys cooking and traveling, and she and her husband enjoy spending time with family, friends, and their cats Lady and Gene.

Amy Klus
Development Coordinator
Amy joined the Office of Gift Development in Spring 2023. In her role as a development coordinator, she provides administrative assistance to Amber Senseny and the IU Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center gift development team.
Amy graduated in 2003 with an MS in Education Administration from Butler University. She also has a BS in Elementary Education. Before coming to the Office of Gift Development, Amy was an elementary teacher in Indianapolis Public Schools for 18 years. She enjoys reading, DIY projects and spending time with her fiancé, her college-bound son, 2 rescue pit bulls—Chief and Lucy, and an elusive cat named Smokey.

Meghan McFadden Forestal
Assistant Director of Development, IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center
Meghan joined the Office of Gift Development in 2008 and has served several roles since. In her current role on the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center’s development team, she is the liaison to memorial gift campaigns and community-based fundraisers. She also oversees the team’s annual giving and donor stewardship programs.
Before coming to the Office of Gift Development, Meghan served as the Communications Assistant for Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson. Prior to the Mayor’s Office, she was Program Coordinator for the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO).
An alum of the University of Dayton, Meghan has a B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. Native to Indianapolis, she and her husband Adam love spending time with family and friends. You can find her every year – rain or shine – at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade!

Ashleigh M. Wahl
Associate Director of Development, IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center
Ashleigh joined the Office of Gift Development in 2020. As a part of the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center development team, Ashleigh stewards several long-running annual gift programs including the Chuckstrong Tailgate Gala, Miles for Myeloma, 100 Voices of Hope and the Komen Tissue Bank.Ashleigh comes to IU from United Way, where she marketed multiple giving programs, including those targeted at millennials. Prior to being with United Way, Ashleigh was a litigation attorney working for a firm in Indy, representing clients battling cancer and lung disease. She graduated from IU’s McKinney School of Law in 2008. A native of Buffalo, New York, Ashleigh earned her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University and her master’s degree from the University of Kansas.
Unfortunately, Ashleigh is no stranger to cancer. Her parents relocated to Indy after both Ashleigh and her brother settled here, and her father was diagnosed with stomach cancer a few years ago. He was treated at IU and is doing well. In her spare time, Ashleigh enjoys spending time with her husband Chris, stepson Asher, and West Highland Terrier Rudy. The Wahls are big fans of IndyCar and can often be found at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Michelle Jones Petty
Executive Associate Director of Development Services
Michelle Jones Petty has been a fundamental member of the Office of Gift Development and Alumni Relations team since 1988. She has held numerous positions over the years and served in instrumental roles in completing four capital fundraising campaigns that have raised over $1.6 billion. In her current role, she oversees donor relations and acknowledgments, gift processing, data management, reporting, and prospect management. From August 2019 to March 2020, she served as Interim Senior Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations.
Michelle earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. She is married and has two children.

Darnell Coleman
Technical Project Manager
Darnell has been a part of the Office of Gift Development team since 2004. As Technical Project Manager, he provides technical solutions for projects, develops standard and customized database reports, and oversees all the day-to-day technology needs of the office.
An alum of the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, Darnell has a B.S. in Computer and Information Technology. Outside the office, he and his wife stay busy taking care of their growing family. Darnell enjoys playing musical instruments such as the drums and keyboard. He also loves playing and teaching sports to his kids.

Vicki Dodson
Assistant Director of Donor Relations
Vicki has been a member of the Office of Gift Development since 2001, serving first as Stewardship Coordinator and now as Assistant Director of Donor Relations. Before coming to the Office of Gift Development, Vicki worked elsewhere at IU, making her a nearly twenty-year veteran of the university.
A native Hoosier, Vicki is an Indiana University alum and majored in Computer Science and African American Studies. She has three grown children and three beloved grandchildren, and loves visiting with her family in her free time.

Lori Fields
Director of Special Events
Lori has been a part of the team at IU for over thirty years, joining the Office of Gift Development in 1990. As Director of Special Events, Lori oversees many live donor events, including the premiere event, the Gathering of Friends. She enjoys the wide variety of people that she meets in the course of her job.A native Hoosier, Lori is an IU alum with a degree in Elementary Education. She and her family are Mooresville residents, and she loves spending time with her children and grandson. When not in the office, she enjoys time with family, cooking, and being outdoors.

Pam Glaze
Stewardship Coordinator
Pam joined the Office of Gift Development in 2017. In her role as Stewardship Coordinator, she coordinates all activities associated with gift acknowledgments, gift processing, and gift stewardship for the School of Medicine.
Pam graduated from Anderson University with a B.A. in Computer Science and Business. She and her husband are thankful that their family lives locally, so that they can spend lots of time with their two children and grandchildren. She loves board games and card games, and she and her husband are part of a long-running euchre club.

Melissa Hornaday
Assistant Director of Special Events
Melissa has been with the Office of Gift Development since 1995, making her a veteran of our development team. As the Assistant Director of Special Events, Melissa is involved in planning and executing board meetings, donor events, and alumni reunions.Melissa has a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Indiana University. When she isn’t busy in the office, she loves to spend time with her family, play tennis, and volunteer at her son’s school.

Jennifer Mackling
Development Support Specialist
Jennifer joined the Office of Gift Development in 2018. In her role as stewardship coordinator, she calls upon a deep sense of gratitude to sunshine and small joys, her love of color-coded organization, and coffee-fueled creativity to celebrate our School of Medicine donors and share the impact of their generosity.
Jennifer came to IU from Michigan, where she worked on the development of a startup nonprofit sports and recreation facility. She graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Recreation, Parks, & Leisure Studies. Outside the office, Jennifer enjoys all things volleyball, home renovations, knitting and crafting, and being outdoors.

Kristen Melwid
Stewardship Manager
Kristen joined Indiana University School of Medicine in 2012 and has held several positions in the Office of Gift Development and Alumni Relations. Her current role is as Stewardship Manager, where she oversees our efforts to ensure donor intent. An Indiana University alumna, Kristen holds a B.S. in Recreation. Before coming to the School of Medicine, Kristen completed internships at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indiana Sports Corp. In her free time, Kristen enjoys hiking, reading, and cheering on her favorite sports teams with her family – Go Hoosiers!

Andrea Spahn-McGraw
Executive Director of Advancement, Neurosciences
Andrea joined IU School of Medicine in 2017. Previously, she held leadership fundraising positions at Purdue University, serving most recently as the Director of Advancement in the College of Science overseeing all fundraising and alumni relations efforts. There, she was responsible for guiding and achieving the college’s capital campaign goals as part of the university’s $2 billion capital campaign. A creative advancement professional with over 13 years of experience in relationship building, strategic planning, and leadership, she began her career in Indianapolis at Indiana Landmarks. She then moved to the southwest to be an advocate for public television with Eight, Arizona PBS at Arizona State University, before returning to the Midwest.
Andrea is passionate about higher education, scientific and medical philanthropy and loves that she gets to see the impact of her work in faculty and patient successes every day. She holds a B.A. in Journalism from Butler University and an MBA from the WP Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. She and her husband live in Zionsville. When Andrea is not at work she loves to travel, cook dinners at home and listen to her husband play Latin jazz at The Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis.

Farah Gerber
Associate Director of Development
Farah joined the Office of Gift Development in 2021, having previously worked in development at the Island Institute in Maine. As Associate Director of Development, she works closely with the Dean’s Council Board in addition to reunion giving, third-party events, and mentor campaigns. Farah holds an undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree in Philanthropic Studies from the Indiana University Lilly School of Philanthropy.
When not working, Farah loves to hike, travel, and explore new places. She is an animal lover who has two rescue dogs, a French bulldog and a pitbull.

Mary Maxwell
Director of Principal Gifts Mary Maxwell joined the Office of Gift Development in 1995, making her a 30+ year veteran of the development team. In her current role, she works primarily with donors who make transformational gifts that help the School significantly expand research and education initiatives. Her job brings her in contact with donors from all walks of life and all areas of interest.
Mary came to Indiana University School of Medicine in 1989, serving as Media Manager in the Office of Public and Media Relations before joining the gift development team.

Lee Vriesman Abrams
Senior Associate Director of Development
Lee rejoined the Office of Gift Development in 2021, having previously been a member of the team from 2013 to 2018. She is responsible for the Department of Surgery, which consists of six divisions including general surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, transplantation surgery, cardiothoracic surgery & peripheral vascular surgery, and Orthopedic Surgery.
With more than 25 years of fundraising experience, Lee has worked for healthcare, education and social service organizations around Indianapolis including The Damien Center, Children’s Bureau and Butler University. She is a graduate from Ball State University with a degree in Political Science and is a member of class XV of the Stanley K. Lacy Leadership Program. In her free time, Lee enjoys cooking, gardening, and entertaining family and friends.Contact Information

Gina Bailey
Regional Development Officer, IU School of Medicine-Ft. Wayne
Gina joined the Fort Wayne campus of IU School of Medicine in 2006. She began her career at IU as a research assistant and transitioned to the administrative office in 2008. She joined the Office of Gift Development in 2018. Throughout her career at the School of Medicine, Gina has dedicated her time serving faculty and students.
Gina is passionate about medical education and research and enjoys the opportunity to connect donors to IU School of Medicine students and programs. She received a B.S. in Biology from Saint Mary’s College. She and her husband live in Fort Wayne. When Gina is not at work she loves to travel, take on do-it-yourself projects, garden, and spend time with family.

Derek Dixon
Senior Associate Director of Development
Derek joined the Office of Gift Development in 2021, having previously worked as Director of Major Gifts for the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. In his current role, he is a fundraiser for the Department of Medicine. The largest department in the School of Medicine, it encompasses cardiology, clinical pharmacology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, hepatology, infectious disease, internal medicine, nephrology, pulmonology and rheumatology.
Derek holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philanthropic Studies from the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the IU O'Neill School of Public & Environmental Affairs.

Amber Embrey
Assistant Director, Development and Communications, IU School of Medicine-Evansville Amber joined the IU School of Medicine team in 2012 as a development associate. In her current role, she oversees development, marketing, and alumni relations for the School of Medicine on our Evansville regional campus.
Amber earned her B.A. in Public Relations and Advertising from the University of Southern Indiana and holds a Certificate in Fund Raising Management from the Lilly School of Philanthropy. In 2018, she was the recipient of the Evansville Business Journal's 20 Under 40 for her community engagement and advancement of the nonprofit sector in southern Indiana.
Outside of the office, she enjoys volunteering, reading, and spending time with her family.

Susan Howey
Support Staff
Susan joined the Office of Gift Development team in 2007. As a Development Coordinator, she provides administrative support to Mark Notestine and Andrea Spahn-McGraw.
An alum of Jacksonville State University in Alabama, Susan spends her time outside the office as a choral singer. She and her husband enjoy boating, hiking, and spoiling their dogs.

Chelsea McClellan
Development Support Specialist
Chelsea joined the Office of Gift Development in 2017. She had previously completed an internship with the office during college and was excited to become a part of the team full-time. She currently provides administrative assistance for Derek Dixon, Kathryn Red, Tim Ueber, and Ken Scheer.
Chelsea graduated Indiana University with a B.A. in Anthropology and minors in Religious Studies and History. A Hoosier native, she lives on the south side of Indianapolis near several generations of family. When not at work, she enjoys reading a good novel and spending time with friends.

Jennie Paton
Development Support Specialist
Jennie joined the Office of Gift Development in 2017. She first came to IU in 2006 working in Human Resources before transferring to the School of Medicine. In her role as a Development Support Specialist, she provides administrative support to Caitie Stewart, Mary Maxwell, Lee Vriesman Abrams and Farah Gerber.
Outside of the office, Jennie loves to spend time with her husband of 36 years, two adult daughters and beloved granddaughter.

Kathryn Red
Development Director, Department of Medicine Kathryn joined the Office of Gift Development in 2007. In her role, she is responsible for fundraising for the Department of Medicine. The largest department in the School of Medicine, it encompasses cardiology, clinical pharmacology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, hepatology, infectious disease, internal medicine, nephrology, pulmonology and rheumatology. In addition, she is the lead IU fundraiser for the Cardiovascular Institute.
Her fundraising career began at the American Heart Association in 1998, where she worked in territories covering Southern Indiana and Illinois running Heart Walks and school-based fundraising efforts. Later, she worked in development for the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and the United Way of Central Indiana as the Tocqueville Society fundraising director.
Kathryn graduated from Indiana University in 1997 with a degree from the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. She and her husband, Mike, (BS ‘98, JD ‘04) live in Greenwood, Indiana and have four children, two of which are also IU graduates. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Ken Scheer
Senior Associate Director of Major Gifts Ken joined IU School of Medicine in 2018 and partners with the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Urology, Orthopaedic Surgery, and numerous other physicians and researchers throughout the School. In addition, he cultivates relationships with alumni, emeriti faculty, and other friends of IU to secure philanthropic support that is impactful to the School and meaningful for the donor.
Ken graduated from Marian University in 1984 and has over 35 years of professional experience. Before coming to the Office of Gift Development, he spent 10 years at the Office of Institutional Advancement at Marian University.
His wife Cathy is a Registered Nurse and graduate of the Indiana University School of Nursing. They reside in the Geist area of Indianapolis and have three children. Outside of work, Ken enjoys yard work, watching sports, and playing golf.

Caitie Deranek Stewart
Senior Associate Director of Development
Caitie Deranek Stewart joined the Office of Gift Development in 2014. She is the primary contact for giving to ophthalmology, otolaryngology, women’s health at IU School of Medicine and raises funds for diversity efforts, scholarships, and regional campuses of the School.
Caitie holds a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance and a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Indianapolis. She completed her master of arts in philanthropic studies from the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and a master of public affairs with a concentration in nonprofit management from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI in 2016.
In addition to her work at IU School of Medicine, Caitie is active in the local nonprofit community and is interested in improving the practice of fundraising around the world. She is a professional vocalist and maintains a small private voice and piano studio. She enjoys reading, baking, and spending time with her family

Tim W. Ueber
Director of Planned Giving Tim joined the Office of Gift Development in 2012. He is responsible for directing all planned giving activities, building donor relationships, and working closely with donors to help them achieve their philanthropic goals. Additionally, Tim guides activities for the Planned Giving Committee and the J.O. Ritchey Society.
After earning his undergraduate degree from Indiana University in 1991, Tim went on to graduate cum laude from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. His extensive estate planning background includes several years at local wealth management companies and law firms, advising families on complex financial, tax, business and estate matters. Tim began his legal career litigating complex tort matters in state and federal courts. He recently served as an Officer on the Executive Council of the Estate Planning and Administration Section of the Indianapolis Bar Association.
Tim and his son reside in Fishers. For many years Tim has been coaching grade school football, and when time permits he enjoys golfing.

Catherine Zimmermann
Director of Development and Public Relations, IU School of Medicine-Evansville
Catherine Zimmermann joined IU School of Medicine-Evansville in 2011. Previously, her work focused on building local non-profit growth through strategic community engagement and fundraising efforts. Her early work in collaborative advancement was instrumental in her role as a part of a consortium developed to bring multiple academic health programs together to learn under one roof and expand medical education and clinical research in southwestern Indiana. As an accomplished fundraiser with over 20 years of experience, she enjoys working in her comprehensive regional role as she engages with donors at all levels, including both major and principal gifts.Her leadership skills in fund development, communications, special events and public relations have played a key role in the successful and ongoing growth of the innovative programs at the Evansville Campus. Catherine is a graduate of the University of Evansville and holds a Certificate in Fund Raising Management from the Lilly School of Philanthropy. In 2004 she was the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Governor’s Award for her nonprofit work with the local children’s museum. She enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with her family in Evansville.
