Learning Environment

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is dedicated to providing the optimal educational environment for its residents. The program accepts four residents each year and strives to facilitate close relationships among residents and the teaching faculty. We have a 100% boards pass rate and 100% fellowship placement rate.

By maintaining small class sizes, the department ensures that each resident can receive personalized attention and a customized learning experience. Moreover, the department does not depend on residents to perform clinical work in any location. Residents are placed in positions where they can learn—not where their labor is needed.

Clinical Experience

The PM&R Residency at IU School of Medicine has a nearly ideal 50-50 mix of inpatient and outpatient experience with generous training in EMG, sports medicine and pediatric rehabilitation. With special strengths in musculoskeletal and occupational medicine, the program also offers further exposure (if desired) in interventional/injection techniques. Residents take first call, in-house, on average every nine days.

Training Facilities

PM&R residents at IU School of Medicine gain clinical experience at several of the state’s leading medical facilities in Indianapolis, including Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, Richard L. Roudebush Indianapolis VA Medical Center, IU Health Neuroscience Center, IU Health Methodist Hospital, IU Health North Hospital, IU Health West Hospital and Eskenazi Health.
