INDIANAPOLIS — Poet and literary critic Garth Greenwell, author of a debut novel that Publishers Weekly has called the “first great novel of 2016,” is the featured speaker for the Rufus & Louise Reiberg Reading Series this month.
Greenwell will read from his novel, “What Belongs to You,” and other works from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18 in the Basile Auditorium in Eskenazi Hall, 735 W. New York St., on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus.

Of “What Belongs to You,” published in the United States by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in January, the New York Times Book Review observed, “Mr. Greenwell writes long sentences, pinned at the joints by semicolons, that push forward like confidently searching vines. There’s suppleness and mastery in his voice. He seems to have an inborn ability to cast a spell.”
Greenwell has published stories in The Paris Review and A Public Space and writes criticism for The New Yorker and The Atlantic.
The Reiberg Reading Series is the presentation of the IUPUI Arts and Humanities Institute and the Department of English in the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI.
