IUPUI warns students to beware of online classified ads

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis officials are urging students to use caution when responding to postings on Craigslist or other classified advertisement websites that claim to involve a school on campus.

Last night, a student responded to a posting soliciting nude models by someone who claimed to be a teaching assistant at Herron School of Art and Design. The request was for photos, supposedly for a project dealing with sex trafficking and female empowerment.

The student contacted Herron this morning and learned there is no such project and that the school does not seek figure models through Craigslist.

Students are encouraged to contact any school in question before responding to a classified ad.

Since the student reported the incident, the posting has been removed from Craigslist.
