IU-funded Haven releases home maintenance app on Apple’s iTunes

FISHERS, Ind. — Haven, an Indiana University-funded developer of a mobile and Web application that helps homeowners maintain their property, officially launched its product today through the App Store on Apple’s iTunes for iPhone users in the Indianapolis market.

The free, downloadable tool uses a personalized, intuitive reminder and tracking system that alerts users to potential home maintenance issues before they occur — such as changing an air filter and scheduling lawn or pool service. It also summons quick response for unexpected events such as water leaks or storm damage.

Haven also debuted today its Home Manager and Home Check-Up services to the Indianapolis market. Home Manager offers homeowners a personal human concierge who helps them maintain their home’s value. Home Check-Up provides a 200-point evaluation that helps homeowners develop a property improvement action plan.

“Owning a home is the best investment you can make, but the responsibility can be daunting,” said Jim Brown, Haven’s president and co-founder and an IU Bloomington graduate. “Haven is designed to save users time, money and stress by equipping them with predictive technology and proactive tools to be better homeowners.”

Haven promotes preventive maintenance by helping users learn and anticipate their home’s needs. When upkeep is required, the app retrieves instant pricing information, schedules appointments with pre-approved, licensed and insured contractors and allows payment within the app. It also provides users a comprehensive home snapshot and digitally organizes receipts and records that can aid in home resale.

In the fall, Haven completed a $1.03 million round of seed funding for product enhancement, employee growth and marketing efforts. Investors included the Innovate Indiana Fund, along with Elevate Ventures and 16 angel investors.

“There’s a level of expertise required to properly maintain the investment in your home. The seamless Home Manager service from Haven makes that expertise accessible and easier to use,” said Ken Green, managing director of the Innovate Indiana Fund. “We believe homeowners will respond to the peace of mind of knowing that a Home Manager is in front of any future issues.”

The first release of the Haven app is a key step in a longer journey, Brown said. “We have an exciting roadmap for additional product features, and we can’t wait to get them in the hands of homeowner users over the coming months.”
