New class of IUPUI freshman honors students to attend Emerging Leaders Conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS — The next generation of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis undergraduate Honors College leaders will undergo training this weekend.

The annual Honors College Emerging Leaders Conference takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the IUPUI Campus Center, 420 University Blvd. About 50 IUPUI freshmen are to participate in the event, attending classes and workshops designed to prepare them as peer counselors and leaders.

Under the tutelage of Stephen Hundley and Eugene Pride, the students will discuss the characteristics, skills and responsibilities of high-potential leaders. Break-out sessions will follow two tracks: leadership and event planning. Students will also investigate their own personalities and leadership profiles using interactive exercises based on a personality assessment tool.

The event also features an etiquette luncheon from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Professional butler Anthony Cawthon will present “Dine With Confidence and Professionalism.” The “learn-as-you-eat” luncheon will address such questions as:

  • How should I behave at a formal dining table?
  • Which fork should I use, and when?
  • What are the best ways to remain calm under pressure?

Media interested in covering the luncheon or other activities should contact Diane Brown at habrown@iu.edu or 371-274-2195.
