INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana University and GO Express Travel announce the launch of Campus Commute — an environmentally responsible, safe, convenient and low-cost travel option for faculty, staff, students and the general public between Bloomington and Indianapolis.
The intercampus shuttle, which offers Wi-Fi, wheelchair accessibility, reclining seats, electrical outlets, DirecTV, lavatory and DoubleMap — a real-time bus tracking interactive map — will provide nonstop service Monday through Friday, making four trips each weekday.
“Campus Commute will greatly benefit faculty, staff and students who are required to travel between IU Bloomington and IUPUI for meetings, classes and/or events or are in need of a commuting alternative,” said Kent McDaniel, IU Bloomington transportation liaison and demand manager.
Shuttle stops in Bloomington are the Indiana University Memorial Union circle drive, 900 W. Seventh St., and the Indiana Memorial Stadium purple lot near Gate 10 off the State Road 45/46 Bypass. Indianapolis stops are at the IUPUI Campus Center, 420 University Blvd., and the Indianapolis Statehouse near the intersection of Capitol Avenue and Market Street on the east side of the building.
“The focus is really on sustainability,” said IUPUI Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Dawn M. Rhodes. “Campus Commute will allow riders to use their time productively in a comfortable environment, all while reducing their carbon footprint and conserving energy.”
According to the American Public Transit Association, a single person who switches a 20-mile round-trip commute by car to transit can reduce his/her annual CO2 emissions by 4,800 pounds per year.
Ticket prices vary and start as low as $7 one way for an open, non-reserved seat. Riders can upgrade to a reserved seat for an additional $1.50. Frequent travelers also have the option to purchase a commuter card, which saves 30% on ten one-way trips.
Tickets for faculty, staff, students and the general public can be purchased at the following locations:
- JagTag Office: This location in the IUPUI Campus Center offers the advance purchase of individual, open-seat tickets for $7 one way as well as commuter cards for $70. Seating for these options are first-come, first-served. Cash, credit cards and JagTags are accepted as payment. The JagTag Office can be reached at 317-274-5177.
- Campuscommute.com: The website offers individual, open-seat one-way tickets for $10 and reserved tickets for $11.50. The website also offers commuter cards and the option for IU employees to purchase discounted one-way tickets, both open and reserved seats, using the appropriate code provided by IU Travel Management Services. A student ID or driver’s license must be presented to the bus driver along with the confirmation email provided with your online ticket purchase.
- Intercampus shuttle: Tickets can be purchased via credit card at the time of travel for $10 one way. Seating for this option is first-come, first-served.
