INDIANAPOLIS — Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman, a national health law firm headquartered in Indianapolis, has committed $75,000 over the next five years to support graduate fellowships for physicians studying in the Business of Medicine MBA program at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business Indianapolis.
The Hall Render Business of Medicine Fellowship will be awarded annually as a $15,000 scholarship to one outstanding physician based on his or her background, experience and potential to be a leader in the ever-changing health care industry.
“As one of the nation’s leading health law firms, we are keenly aware of the increased need for physician leadership as our health care system grapples with the complexities of cost, quality and access,” said Bill Thompson, chairman of Hall Render. “An MBA program designed exclusively for physicians is right on point.
“Our support of the MBA Fellowship Program fits nicely with our ongoing support of the Hall Center for Law and Medicine at the McKinney School of Law, named after William Hall, our founding partner, and his wife, Christine,” Thompson added. “We hope that together, these two programs will change how health care is delivered.”

The first recipient of the Hall Render Business of Medicine Fellowship is Alvin Wee, the program director for the kidney and kidney/pancreas programs at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Wee is also on urology staff at the Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute and an assistant professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.
“In the medical community, Hall Render has an excellent reputation for its knowledge of the complex issues facing our industry,” said Wee, who received his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. “I appreciate Kelley’s recognition and Hall Render’s support in receiving this fellowship.”
