INDIANAPOLIS — The award winning Indiana University Student Outreach Clinic will celebrate its sixth year of providing free care to Indianapolis residents with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23.
The IU Student Outreach Clinic sees patients from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday in the Neighborhood Fellowship Church, 3102 E. 10th St.
In 2009, a group of motivated medical students started Indiana’s first student-led clinic in partnership with the Neighborhood Fellowship Church to provide free medical care for a community in need. Since then, the IU Student Outreach Clinic has strengthened academic and community partnerships and now provides many additional services.
The medical school students provide free urgent care to about 35 patients each week, with oversight from IU School of Medicine faculty. Additional services are provided in collaboration with students from:
- Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
- IU Fairbanks School of Public Health
- IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law
- IU School of Dentistry (who see patients at the People’s Health Center)
- IU School of Health and Rehabilitation Science Department of Occupational Therapy
- IU School of Health and Rehabilitation Science Department of Physical Therapy
- IU School of Social Work
- University of Indianapolis Krannert School of Physical Therapy.
The IU Student Outreach Clinic is the largest interdisciplinary service-learning program at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and has been recognized locally with a 2013 Governor’s Service Award.
